Filipino artist, Pacita Abad, pioneered the technique of trapunto painting in which she treats her canvas as a quilt, stuffing it with cloth and stitching beads, buttons and sequins throughout. Her approach gives the piece texture and reflection, as well femininity and the depth of tradition.
